5 signs you've outgrown Marg (and what to move to)
Marg ERP built a lot of Indian pharmacies. But the desktop-first, dongle-tied era is ending — here's how to know when to switch.
Marg ERP is a fine product — thousands of Indian pharmacies still run on it. But the world has moved. Here are five signs your shop has, too.
1. You can't check today's sales from home
Marg is desktop-first. If you didn't buy the cloud add-on (or your VPN is flaky), you can't answer the question "how much did we sell today?" until you drive to the shop. A modern POS is a URL you open on any device, anywhere.
2. Your data lives on one machine
If that laptop dies, your business is offline until the backup restores — if the backup ran. If it didn't, you're doing manual data entry from paper invoices for a week. Cloud POS makes this failure mode literally impossible.
3. Multi-outlet is a Frankenstein setup
Running two or three shops on Marg means running two or three separate instances plus a sync tool plus a prayer. A cloud-native system has multi-outlet baked in — same login, switch outlets in a dropdown, roll up reports across all of them.
4. Your staff hate the interface
Function-key-heavy DOS-era interfaces work great after 100 hours of training. Cashier turnover in retail pharmacy is high; every new hire is another 40-hour cost. A modern POS takes 30 minutes to learn the counter.
5. Compliance is a spreadsheet, not a report
GSTR-1, expiring stock, prescription records — if you're exporting to Excel and re-slicing in every filing, you're the compliance layer, not your software. A modern system produces the summary you file.
What "move to" looks like
PharmaPOS is one option — cloud-native, per-outlet billing, 7-day free trial, no card. But the important part isn't the vendor; it's the migration plan. See our full Marg vs PharmaPOS comparison for the feature-by-feature breakdown, and Getting started for what a day-one migration looks like.
"We moved 8,400 SKUs and 6 months of history to PharmaPOS in a weekend. The counter was live Monday. Nobody noticed except the queue moved faster."
